WhatsApp for PC has taken the world by storm. It’s free mobile messaging app allows you to stay in touch with your friends wherever you may be. The first version of the app was limited to just a few select countries including Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. With version 2.0 though, users from additional countries can now sign up.
Whatsapp for PC Windows and Mac are the two platforms that the free app is available on. Whatsapp uses the Windows interface for its web-based client and the Mac OSX for its desktop application. There’s no doubt that the app works very well on both systems but there’s also no doubting the differences between the two when it comes to the functionalities and the features included. The following is a comparison between the two platforms:
o Share photos and videos: Since the introduction of its new version 2.0, Whatsapp for PC now allows users from different countries to sign up and get access to their respective networks. You can view images and videos from other people on your PC or your iPhone through your PC. You can even upload them on your Facebook account or on your favorite social media sites such as YouTube, LinkedIn and others. This feature is exclusive to the Windows platform.
o Offline support: While the functionality of the app is mostly the same between the two versions, the support is a little different. You won’t be able to use the service on your tablet or smart phone. Only computers and laptops can use the offline capability of whatsapp for pc windows 7. However, this particular feature is not available with the mobile version. You will have to use the Wi-Fi in order to send and receive messages.
o Improved privacy settings: Even though you can see everyone else using the service, you will have greater control over the ones you share and those you don’t. Unlike the desktop application, you will only be able to see the ones that are listed in your contact book. You can set the visibility of the ones you don’t want to be seen at all. You can also manage your direct messages and group conversations with greater ease. In the desktop version, you had to use the settings in the main area and then click “OK”. With the whatsapp for pc windows 7, you will just click on” Settings” and then “OAuth2”, which will bring up all the options you need to manage your messaging experience.
o Native integration of the Twitter and Facebook services: Like the desktop application, the mobile version comes with the Twitter and Facebook integration. These two services have been integrated tightly so that you will get relevant updates from these social networks on your mobile device. This makes your communication with your friends more interesting and dynamic. You can even send them videos from your phone through the YouTube application. If you are an uploader of videos, you can now do so directly through the Whatsapp for PC.
